Experience your world > Sweden

The images of Sweden: healthy, blond youth; dense silent birch forests; sparkling lakes – the fascination of a S.C.C.E. program to Sweden. The truth will prove twice as fascinating as anything one could imagine.

The standard of living remains one of the highest in Europe.

A strong folkloric heritage provided Sweden with a rich cultural texture. In the summer numerous festivals are held, for which men and women don their native costumes and dance around the traditional Maypoles. Although Swedish is the official language most Swedes do speak English, enough for Sweden to be the home of such musical groups as ABBA.

Sweden is a world leader in the exploration and experimentation with design. Based on the concept that functional things must also be graceful, Swedish design has influenced or changed the appearance of many everyday items, such as furniture, glassware, ceramics and textiles. An exchange to Sweden offers a taste of new and old Sweden. S.C.C.E. host families are selected for their genuine interest in sharing their culture, warmth and hospitality.

An exchange is the way to go. Leaving Melbourne during a 40º Summer and heading halfway around the world to Sweden - people thought I was crazy. I saw it as an adventure and made the most of the snowy climate. I snowboarded, made some wonderful friends and became part of a new family. Overall my experience and trip overseas has been the best adventure of my life so far! It opened my eyes to the world around me.

Nicole Warwick from Niddrie Vic. to Danderyd, Sweden

I acquired an unbelievable strength and maturity which has helped me grow into the person I am today. I developed the most amazing friendships while in Sweden. We supported each other, laughed and cried together, shared stories and made memories which will remain with me forever. These people became my second family, the culture and way of life became fully part of me. Leaving (Sweden) was the most difficult part of my stay. Promises were made: ‘One day we’ll meet again.’ I want to ensure that other people have the same excellent experience that I had and I’ll lend a hand in any area you may require.

Anna Scullie from Wangaratta Vic. to Horby, Sweden
