Experience your world > Japan
Much smaller than Australia in size (about 1/20th), and with a population that is nearly eight times larger, Japan consists of four main islands and thousands of small islands. There is no place in the country that does not contain some exquisite beauty or site of cultural interest. Using the well-organised, and precisely timetabled network of transport, almost every-thing in Japan is within easy reach.
Japanese love baseball, are avid skiers and incorporate fitness into school and work life. Japan is indeed a land of contrasts to be enjoyed by students. Students will be charmed by the character of Japanese people and their houses. Guests are welcomed cordially by the family and local community, and the cleanliness and honesty of the whole country is extraordinary.
S.C.C.E. students attend Japanese school and study a range of subjects in addition to taking advantage of extra-curricular activities. Students interested in commerce and trade will gain insight to the culture that produced a country that is considered a major trading partner with Australia.

"I wouldn’t say that I had a perfect year. I had ups and downs. However, I had the best experience of a lifetime. I’ve learned so much about myself and how to communicate with others.
"Although we may have our differences, it’s amazing to see that in trying to get along with each other, we have already begun to create friendships that last a lifetime."
Julia Chan from Ashfield N.S.W. to Gunma, Japan |

"Having just revisited Japan, I realise how fantastic an opportunity it was to participate in your program. I was accepted seamlessly back into Japanese life. When there, I felt completely relaxed, comfortable, and happy.
"Introductions are everything in Japan, and through SCCE, I met fantastic families. I entered and was accepted as a fellow student in a real Japanese high school. And was able to make true friendships with people.
"My exchange was just the beginning - of a lot. With confidence and zest to explore the world, and with a promise to return to my second home, I had a fantastic year."
Francis Shand of Melbourne, VIC to Chiba-shi, Japan
After V.C.E, Francis spent five months in Poland as a volunteer English teacher, then three months backpacking all over Europe, then returned to Japan on a working holiday for three months. Last heard from doing B.A./B.S. (including Japanese) at Melbourne University. |
