Experience your world > Italy
Italy has played a primary role in forming Western European culture and sense of lifestyle. Reminiscences of Italy’s glorious Roman and Renaissance past are plainly evident in the villages, towns and major cities of the country which has 56 million inhabitants. Present day Italy is a thriving cultural capital for arts enthusiasts, followers of style and fine food.
One cannot escape the music of Italy, either sung by a Venetian gondolier or a tenor in one of the many opera houses in Italy.
Italians, known as being friendly and "giving” people, are warm and welcoming to visitors of all nationalities. Australians, who share many of the customs and food brought with Italian immigrants, may find a special place in their Italian host communities.
Italians enjoy a lifestyle where close family and the pleasures of life are honoured. Exchange students enter into this society, long seen as one of the finest and most respected culturally in the world.

His flight was fantastic...school starts at 0800 and finishes at 1230, 6 days a week...host home is beautiful and picturesque...Host Mum is a teacher at the school...as a ‘second language’, he is studying French in Italian rather than English in Italian.
Excerpts from a letter from the mother of Matthew Jamieson from Fitzroy, Vic. to Castelnuovo di Monti, Italy |
|
Having the Italian language helped secure my berth in Italian professional cycling teams and a job as an interpreter for the Italian fashion industry. My husband was based in Italy for work for a few years; I was able to help with his affairs. My host family has been and continues to be an important part of my life. I have been back to see them five or six times, enjoyed watching their daughter marry and start her own family. She and her brother had come to stay with us in Australia.
Annabelle Vowels from Blackburn, VIC. to Naples, Italy |
|
Annabelle earned her B. Landscape Architecture from RMIT, spending a semester at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. Her professional cycling career has included the Tour de France, several Giro d’Italia, etc. Last heard from living for a short period in Ghent, Belgium with her husband and first child.
Thank you for the effort and work you put into my exchange program - the biggest and greatest experience that I have ever had. I’m finding the skills that I have learned so useful in everyday life. I’m continuing my Italian lessons. Please pass on my gratitude to the overseas affiliate staff.
Martin Scott from Richmond, Tas. to Udine Italy accompanied by a very long list of wonderful happenings. |
