Experience your world > Holland

Holland is a small country but packed into this petite area is a wonderful fanfare of delights for S.C.C.E. participants to experience.

The unique geography of Holland has shaped the history and character of the people and the country’s culture. Also known as the Netherlands, named for its unusually low (nether) geography, Holland has risen, literally from the sea to become an affluent, intriguing nation.

One of the great pleasures of Holland is its lively contrast between social harmony and liberalism and traditional conservative values. In Dutch society, showiness is not a popular trait and fuss of any kind is regarded as undignified, and it is therefore no wonder that so many Dutch enjoy a familiar lifestyle in Australia.

S.C.C.E. programs expose students to the warm and hospitable people, the celebrated beauty and simple pleasures of Holland. Students are also introduced to the Dutch language that is reinforced in their host families and school classrooms.

Family outings or community-oriented activity with other students, S.C.C.E. programs grant participants entry into Dutch life as typically found in either rural or urban environments, ensuring genuine cultural immersion and the greatest opportunity for cultural understanding.

Bicycles, cheese, ice-skating, canals, tulips, wind-mills – will all be part of your unique Dutch exchange experience.

A week-long arrival orientation is included in the programs beginning in August and January.

"The most satisfying part was learning another language.

"There is nothing that beats speaking a second language fluently."

Alison Fogarty - S.C.C.E. exchange student

"I look back at my year and can say it was the best year of my life, and I will always have great memories of it. It was a fantastic experience to go and live on another part of the world and learn about a different culture.

"Holland is a place filled with friendly people and I was made to feel welcome both at home and school."

Alica Henderson from Toorak Gardens, SA to Venray, Holland
