Experience your world > Denmark

The smallest and most southern of the Scandinavian countries, Denmark offers a medley of stunning modest cities, pretty countryside and hundreds of tranquil islands.

Many are not aware, but Denmark shares much more in common with Australia than only Princess Mary. Like Australians, the Danes are noted as being especially welcoming and also share a keen interest in sports and enjoying the outdoors – in both sun and snow.

Their straightforward style and mature, direct approach together with a distinctly Danish informality and relaxed, often humorous attitude to life makes for relationships based on trust and transparency – an ideal learning environment for students eager to understand the culture and perfect the language.

Knowledge of the language and the unique Danish character will be learned by exchange students through a combination of being part of a typical family, a local school and member of the local community.

Whether leisure time is spent enjoying crafts, sailing or family activities, students who choose a Danish SCCE exchange program can look forward to returning with fond memories, together with gained confidence, a new sense of independence and a greater understanding of Danish history and culture, including of course Hans Christian Andersen fairy tales.

"I remain in regular contact with my host family with e-mails, letters phone calls, birthday cards, and presents. I visited Denmark again and spent Christmas with my host family."

Claire Henning from Coorparoo QLD to Hvidovre, Denmark

After years of study following his exchange program, Khyle is currently a veterinarian in N.Z. where he recently married another veterinarian. His Danish host family and Danish friends flew to N.Z. for the wedding. Khyle had been Best Man for his host brother’s wedding in Denmark; that honeymoon was in Australia.
