Experience your world > Ireland

The emerald isle is certainly a sight for sore eyes, with bucolic, gently undulating hills rolling as far as the eye can see, speckled with country lanes, cottages and the occasional castle. Getting to understand Ireland is as much an adventure into its arresting landscape as it is into its culture, people and tumultuous history.

Situated east of Great Britain, north-east of continental Europe, Ireland has survived tough times, including war, famine and mass emigration, to emerge a popular tourist destination offering Celtic treasures, a Gaelic ethnic language and welcoming population complimented by stunning coastlines.

Famous for Leprechauns, St Patrick, all things green and big friendly smiles, Ireland is a true cultural medley waiting for exploration by eager exchange students – to be sure, to be sure.

Living with a host family and attending a local school, exchange students will be culturally immersed into the Irish character, history and values. Of particular interest will be the country’s important contribution to the arts, particularly the literary works of Yeats, Beckett and Joyce, not to mention the international phenomenon of Riverdance which broadcast traditional Irish music and dance across the world.

The only S.C.C.E opportunity for an English-speaking program in Europe, Ireland offers students a school system similar to those in Australia. Particularly familiar will be the hours, uniforms, and many single-sex institutions, perhaps with a slightly more conservative curriculum.
