French Language Preparation
START YOUR FRENCH EXCHANGE PROGRAM WITH A TWO–WEEK LANGUAGE CLASS
AVAILABLE IN 14 CITIES ACROSS FRANCE
Would you like to improve your communication skills before you start at your new high school?
If you are departing for France in January, September or November, S.C.C.E can enrol you in specially designed preparatory classes, giving you:
- sharpened pronunciation and grammar skills
- confidence conversing in French
- colloquialisms and common vernacular
- improved communication with your host family
- knowledge of your host community
- local advice about adapting to cultural differences
- friendships with other exchange students
You will join your permanent host family upon arrival and spend the first two weeks of your exchange program taking classes with other exchange students, gaining familiarity with the language and community before attending lycee or college.
Based in provincial cities, qualified teachers hold classes in small, modern schools on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings, with local guided excursions on Wednesdays.
Advantages:
- live with your permanent host family during classes
- practice and improve your French before entering lycee/college
- additional help and advice adapting to cultural differences
- enhance your potential for communications success
HOW CAN I APPLY?
- After submitting your pre-application for an exchange program to France beginning in January, September or November, a form to enrol in prep classes will be sent to you together with your full Application Kit. Your completed prep classes form must be sent to S.C.C.E together with your Application Kit.
- Attending prep classes allows you to indicate preferences for the location of the language school, and hence your host family, in France – however please note preferences for particular locations cannot be guaranteed as primary consideration is always given to allocating the student to the most appropriate family.
- You host family will remain the same during prep classes and the remainder of your program.

"I have gained more than I ever imagined. I can speak another language, am more self-confident, have made friends.
"When people ask me whether it was what I expected, I answer in all confidence that it wasn’t better, it wasn’t worse, it was just different, and I would not have had it any other way.”
John Ayton from Tamworth, N.S.W. to Champtoceaux, France. S.C.C.E. scholarship winner | |
