Experience your world > Brazil

Brazil is a lifestyle. This South American country’s natural beauty, regional cuisine and annual 'Carnaval' have made it a popular and trendy tourist destination, bringing thousands of visitors throughout the year. But the country’s real attraction is one only discovered upon arrival: its people.

The Brazilian character and way of life is even more captivating and enchanting than the dramatic scenery. Tourists often comment on the cheerful and friendly nature of Brazilian people, which is constantly found to enhance visitors’ stays in the country.

Brazilian people and their culture come alive to students who join a S.C.C.E. program. The programs are designed to expose students to the diverse heritage, open and giving population and rich culture. Students come to learn the importance of family life in Brazil and host families enjoy the ambassadorial roles exchange programs encourage.

With a school year or semester program beginning in January or July, exchange students come to understand the personality of Brazil through observation and education of its history, development, modern lifestyle, population and environmental patterns.

Although the official language of Brazil is Portuguese, many people, especially youth, also speak English. Present day Brazil is a thriving cultural haven for sports enthusiasts, followers of arts, style and fine food. Brazil is one of the world’s most musical countries and is well known for having invented the Samba and Bossa Nova.

Southern Cross Cultural Exchange programs will introduce students to the rich heritage, kind people and lush landscapes of the South American treasure.

"She has had an experience of a lifetime with the most loving and generous family anyone could imagine.  She left Australia not knowing one word of Portuguese and now speaks Portuguese fluently.  I sincerely thank S.C.C.E. for making this possible."

From the mother of Zena Jolly from Katanning, W.A. to Vitoria, Brazil

"My family is fantastic and really easy to get along with. They’re helping me to learn Portuguese.  In just over a month since I arrived I have done so many things. School is VERY different!  We start at 7.10am, but finish at 12.30. Lunch is the main meal of the day and there is always a smorgasbord of food waiting on the table when I get home."

Justin Halik from Greensborough, Vic. to Salvador, Brazil

"Just a note to say that I’m having the most terrific time here in Brazil.  My Portuguese after 4 months is now really good and I never speak English anymore, I’m scared I’m going to forget English before I come back!

"The time is going so quickly ... My family here is the best.  I’m particularly close to one of my sisters, and it feels as though I’ve known her all my life.

"School’s almost finished for the year which is a bit sad because I have so much fun at school.  During recess, everyone gets up and dances.

"The lifestyle here is so relaxed, at the moment I don’t know how I’ll ever leave ... I’d recommend Brazil to anyone, it’s the best."

Sarah Hunter from Hawthorn, Vic. to Capuchineros, Brazil
